Seats up for grabs in Scarborough government, nomination papers soon available

A number of local seats will be on the ballot in November for Scarborough residents, including three Town Council seats and three seats on the Scarborough Sanitary District.
Nomination papers for the council and Sanitary District seats will be available Aug. 5 and must be returned by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Council Vice Chair Larry Cain’s, Councilor Bill Donovan’s and Councilor Jonathan Anderson’s terms expire this year, and their seats will be on the ballot in November. Cain served one year on the council to fill the seat left vacant by Donald Cushing in 2025.
Councilors serve three years, starting in December after the November election, and their terms are staggered. The seven councilors serve on town council committees, and they approve the town’s budget, which is executed by the town manager.

The Scarborough Sanitary District is a separate entity from the town, and trustees meet monthly at Town Hall.
People interested in submitting nomination papers must get between 25 and 100 signatures from qualified registered voters. Nomination papers can be picked up and submitted at the Town Clerk Office at Town Hall.
