Sea Dogs outlast Flying Squirrels in 13 innings

Max Ferguson doubled home automatic runner Caden Rose in the 13th inning and Yoeilin Cespedes followed with a two-run homer, lifting the Portland Sea Dogs to a 5-4 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels in an Eastern League game Wednesday night in Richmond, Virginia.

Sea Dogs infielder Ahbram Liendo earned a save despite giving up two unearned runs in the bottom of the 13th. Portland finished with five errors.

The Sea Dogs were held to two hits through nine innings, but the game was scoreless until Rose singled home Ronald Rosario in the top of the 10th.

Richmond tied the game in the bottom of the 10th on a sacrifice fly by Lisbel Diaz. Portland regained the lead in the 12th when Will Turner scored on a sacrifice fly by Henry Godbout, but a throwing error on a double steal in the bottom of the 12th allowed the tying run to score.

The Sea Dogs got a strong outing from starter Hayden Mullins, who gave up four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Jeremy Wu-Yelland was credited with the win after pitching the 11th and 12th.
