Sea Dogs hang on to beat Somerset

Raudelis Martinez hit a two-run double and Will Turner a solo home run as the Portland Sea Dogs scored four runs in the second inning on their way to a 7-6 win over the Somerset Patriots in an Eastern League game Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Somerset took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Jace Avina walked too lead off the game after a 49-minute rain delay and went to third on a double by Garrett Martin. DJ Gladney put the Patriots on the board with a sacrifice fly and Jackson Castillo added an RBI ground out.
Nelly Taylor and Stanley Tucker lead off the bottom of the second with back-to-back singles for Portland. After Tucker stole second, Martinez drove them both home with a double to right. Martinez went to third on a fly out by Ahbram Liendo and scored on a sac fly by Marvin Alcantara.
Portland had a chance to add to its lead after Turner’s home run. Nate Baez followed with a single and tried to score on Brooks Brannon’s double, but was thrown out at home.
Somerset pulled within one on a sac fly by Martin in the fourth, but Portland tacked on runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh to go up 7-3.
Colby Morales hit a three-run home run in the ninth, but Somerset couldn’t complete the comeback.
