Sea Dogs end skid with wild, 10-inning victory
PORTLAND, Maine – The Portland Sea Dogs mounted a dramatic comeback, erasing an eight-run deficit to secure a 13-12 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils in an Eastern League contest. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Sea Dogs.
The game, played in Reading, Pennsylvania, saw Portland rally from an 8-3 hole. The turning point came in the eighth inning when Miguel Bleis hit a three-run home run, giving Portland an 11-9 lead. Bleis had a stellar night, going 4 for 6 with two doubles, five runs batted in, and four runs scored. His homer was the third of the game for Portland.
Johanfran Garcia and Will Turner also homered for the Sea Dogs. Garcia contributed three hits and three RBI.
Portland added a run in the ninth inning and appeared poised for victory, but Reading threatened in the bottom of the ninth. With two runners on base, Erick Brito hit a home run to tie the game at 12-12, sending the contest into extra innings.
In the 10th inning, with Nelly Taylor as the automatic runner on second base, Franklin Arias singled to drive in the game-winning run, securing the 13-12 win for Portland.
Cooper Adams earned the win despite allowing the tying home run in the ninth. Patrick Halligan earned the save by retiring all three batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth.
The Sea Dogs scored in every inning from the fourth through the ninth, showcasing persistent offensive pressure throughout the latter half of the game.
