Sanford Mainers cruise to Game 1 win in NECBL division round series

The Sanford Mainers five runs in the first inning and seven more in the third to roll to a 17-2 win over the Bristol Blues in the Game 1 of the New England Collegiate Baseball League North Division championship series on Wednesday at Goodall Park in Sanford.
The Mainers can advance to the NECBL championship series with a win in Game 2 of the three-game series at 6:35 p.m. Thursday at Muzzy Field in Bristol, Connecticut. If necessary, Game 3 would be held at 6:35 p.m. Friday at Goodall Park.
In the first for Sanford, Will Cowan had a two-run single, Nate Wachter and Brennan Staubley each had an RBI double, and Steven Kraus had an RBI single.
Antonio Morales got the Mainers outburst started in the third with a sacrifice fly. Jacob Harring added an RBI single, Albert De La Rosa had three-run double and Jack Tate hit a two-run home run.
Morales was 2 for 3 with three RBI, while Tate was 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored. De La Rosa had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored.
Charlie Hale earned the win for Sanford, allowing a run on four hits, while striking out four and walking one in five innings.
Sanford advance with a first-round sweep of the Valley Blue Sox. The Mainers finished the regular season 26-15.
