Officials Warn of Safety Risks at Aging Mill Complex
Maine officials have issued a formal warning about an old mill complex that poses several serious public safety risks, citing structural problems, potential fire hazards, and unregulated access to the property.
The concerns center on the building’s deteriorated condition. Officials described the structure as having “significant structural hazards” that could threaten the stability of the entire complex. In addition, they highlighted the danger of fire, noting that the age and condition of the building could facilitate rapid spread of flames if a fire were to break out.
Unauthorized entry was also identified as a key risk. “There is a risk of people entering the building without permission,” an official explained, stressing that unregulated access could lead to accidents or the spread of fire.
The warning comes as part of the county’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety in areas with historic industrial infrastructure. While the announcement does not detail specific actions, the officials’ statements underscore a need for caution and the potential for future measures to mitigate the identified hazards.
