Roman Anthony doubles in Sea Dogs’ loss to Fightin Phils

Rehabbing Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony hit a double and drove in a run, but the Portland Sea Dogs lost to the Reading Fightin Phils 5-2 on Friday night at Hadlock Field in Portland.

The Sea Dogs fall 2 1/2 behind the Fightin Phils for first place in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division second-half standings. Portland has lost two straight after winning the first two games of the series.

Anthony was the DH in the third game of his rehab appearance with Portland as he works his way back from a finger injury that landed him on the injured list in May. He went 1 for 3 and is 3 for 8 with three RBI in his stint with Portland.

Bryan Rincon hit his 19th home run in the first inning and Luke Ritter had an RBI groundout in the second as Reading took a 2-0 lead. Anthony doubled in the fourth and Justin Gonzalez scored on an error on the play.

Gonzalez, the Red Sox’s No. 2 prospect, tripled to lead off the sixth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Anthony.

Reading took the lead in the seventh when Tyler Davis walked the first batter he faced, then gave up a double to Raider Tello to score Carson DeMartino. Ritter hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it 4-2.

Devin Futrell pitched six innings in his third start for the Sea Dogs since he was called up on Aug. 4. He allowed two runs on six hits, struck out four and walked one.
