Rockland library to host poetry reading by Farnsworth workshop participants

Rockland Public Library will welcome poet Kathleen Ellis to lead a poetry reading by participants from this summer’s annual poetry workshop at the Farnsworth Art Museum on at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the library. Poets François Amar, Sara Eastler, Ellen Goldsmith, Eileen Hugo, Lenora Jackson, Mark Raymond and Ellen Sander will read their poems responding to the museum’s exhibitions and exploring diverse poetic styles.

Ellis is the author of five poetry collections, most recently “Body of Evidence.” In addition to the Pablo Neruda Poetry Prize from Nimrod and the Southwest Review poetry prize, she has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and Maine Arts Commission. Poems from her manuscript, “Dear Darwin,” were set to music and released as a Parma Recordings CD, nominated for a 2015 Grammy Award. Ellis teaches creative writing at the University of Maine and coordinates POETS/SPEAK! at the Bangor Public Library. She leads the annual August poetry workshop at the Farnsworth Art Museum.
