Rising WNBA star Olivia Miles eclipses Caitlin Clark's rookie scoring record

Olivia Miles Sets New WNBA Rookie Scoring Record for Minnesota Lynx
Olivia Miles, the 2024 first‑round pick for the Minnesota Lynx, broke the league’s rookie scoring record this past Sunday. In a 101‑89 win over the Connecticut Sun, the 23‑year‑old tallied 21 points to bring her season total to 790 over 40 games, eclipsing former rookie Caitlin Clark’s 769 points with the Indiana Fever.
The Lynx, who finished the season at 32‑10, are one game ahead of the Golden State Valkyries for first place in the standings. The victory—played at the Lynx’s home court—was the latest in a streak of strong performances from the rookie guard.
“It’s special, but it means we’re more so working well as a team,” Miles said after the game. “I have great teammates around me, great vets who allow me to be me out there… It wouldn’t be possible without a coach that believes in you and then two, having teammates that have my back. So it’s really special to obviously be able to accomplish that with such a great team and on a win as well.”
Miles’ achievement is part of a broader breakout season. She is the fastest rookie to reach 350 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists—doing so in just 21 games, one game quicker than Clark and former Chicago Sting guard Andrea Stinson. In June, she set a new mark for most three‑pointers by a rookie in a game, drilling eight on the way to a win over the Valkyries.
The league’s expanded 2026 schedule will feature 50 games, but both Miles and Clark set their career milestones in the 40‑game seasons that preceded it. As the Lynx look toward the playoffs, Miles’ rapid rise and record‑setting play underscore Minnesota’s reputation for developing top talent.
