Principled, pragmatic policies must prevail over partisan politics.

Rick Bennett is a visionary and a problem solver. His housing policy proves that, notably his breakthrough proposal for monthly mortgage assistance.

Rick’s concept is sundial simple: subsidize homebuyers with monthly payments to help them qualify for mortgage approval. In return, homeowners will share back a portion of their home’s future appreciation when sold.

Renters, kids living in their parents’ basements, and so many more will achieve home ownership, the stepping-stone to financial well-being. And, they’ll have a roof over head that provides a significant share of their home’s appreciation — instead of 100% of nothing.

It’s a hand-up, not a hand-out. It’s a fair shake for taxpayers who will get back funds that can then be used to help the next Mainer buy a home, a perpetually funded housing affordability program.

Now Maine can remain home for those who grow up here and a magnet for those who want to live near to where they work.

This is but one of Rick’s four housing proposals that epitomize his candidacy. And housing is only one of his common-sense, bipartisan policies addressing health care, tax relief, energy, childcare, heritage industries and housing.

Only Rick can break the massive, broken, partisan logjam that’s been overseen by state and national politicians for far too long. Rick Bennett is what’s good for Maine.
