Regarding the latest on Bobby Charles | Letter

The 2026 Maine gubernatorial race has generated a sharp exchange in the state's political commentary, centered on an endorsement from an unlikely source. Anita Charles, the sister of gubernatorial candidate Bobby Charles, recently published an op-ed detailing her decision to back a rival candidate in the governor's race.
In her September 9 piece, Charles identified herself as the sibling of Bobby Charles and stated her intention to vote for Hannah Pingree. The op-ed immediately drew a fiery response from a resident of Scarborough, who penned a letter to the local paper expressing his deep frustration with her public declaration.
Chris Queally reacted strongly to Charles' support for Pingree, writing, "Wow! And 'wow' again. That's all I can say about Anita Charles' op-ed concerning her brother Bobby Charles." He went on to demand that a candidate named Charles step aside, declaring, "Charles needs to drop out of the race and go away."
Despite his harsh words directed at the Charles family, Queally clarified his own political alignment. He concluded his letter by confirming his personal vote, stating, "Anyway, we are voting for Hannah Pingree."
