BOSTON-YANKEEES SERIES GETS A RAIN DELAY AT THE BRONX

The Yankees and Red Sox won’t be playing their scheduled Saturday night matchup in the Bronx. The contest has been postponed because of rain and pushed to August 29, when the two clubs will meet for a day-night doubleheader.

The grounds crew at Yankee Stadium pulled the tarp over the infield roughly an hour before the scheduled 7:35 p.m. first pitch, with the rain itself arriving about an hour after that.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone had planned to hand the ball to right-hander Will Warren for the start. Boston was set to counter with left-hander Ranger Suárez.

The postponement halts a brief surge for the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. Boston has now won six of its last seven games in the Bronx after taking Friday night’s series opener, 5-3. The win also means the Red Sox have taken the first game of this weekend’s three-game set.

For New York, the loss in the series opener pushed the Yankees to 1-3 since captain Aaron Judge landed on the injured list with a stress fracture in a rib.

Fans holding tickets to Saturday night’s postponed game can use them for the 1:05 p.m. first game of the August 29 doubleheader. Tickets originally purchased for the August 29 single game will be honored at the 7:15 p.m. nightcap.
