Rays capitalize on four Yankees errors to take commanding 2-0 ALDS lead

Yankees Fall 5‑2 to Rays in ALDS Game 1, Drop Series 0‑2
In a game that began with a flurry of errors and ended with the Yankees facing an elimination match, the New York Yankees were shut out 5‑2 by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The loss left the Yankees trailing the best‑of‑five series two games to none and puts the Bronx‑based club back in the hole with a single game to play.
The Rays opened the contest on the defensive, exploiting three first‑inning mishaps by the Yankees to take a 1‑0 lead. Junior Caminero hit into a fielder’s choice that was ruled a hit, and the Yankees’ trio of errors proved costly. It marked the fifth postseason game in Yankees history to feature four or more mistakes by the club.
New York answered in the fourth inning. Ben Rice launched a solo home run off Rays starter Freddy Peralta, cutting the deficit to 1‑1. The Yankees, however, could not sustain the momentum. They loaded the bases in the top of the fifth, but Cody Bellinger flew out to the warning track, leaving the inning’s 3‑run threat stranded.
The Rays responded quickly in the bottom of the fifth. A groundout by Liam Hicks, an RBI hit by Chandler Simpson, and a two‑run single from Richie Palacios turned the game into a 5‑0 race
