Police Investigate Death at Brunswick Mobile Home Park; No Charges Filed

BRUNSWICK, Maine — Maine State Police are continuing their investigation into the death of a man found at a mobile home in this eastern Maine town early Tuesday morning, though authorities have yet to determine how he died or file any charges related to the incident.

Officers responded to Bay Bridge Estates, a private mobile home park off Old Bath Road, after receiving reports of gunshots around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived at the home on Valerie Avenue, they discovered a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A resident of the home was taken into custody during the early-morning response on charges related to the incident, specifically for allegedly refusing to submit to arrest and violating conditions of his release. He was booked at the Cumberland County Jail but released on $500 bail Tuesday night.

However, Maine State Police clarified Wednesday that no arrests have been made in connection with the man's death. The individual is not being named by authorities pending the completion of the investigation.

Treyvon McKenzie, who lives nearby on Valerie Avenue, described being jolted awake by a loud bang from his neighbor's home shortly after midnight.

"About 10 minutes later, I heard police yelling at a person," McKenzie said. "Then I saw what I believed to be a body."

McKenzie said he witnessed officers performing CPR on the individual, then heard what sounded like two gunshots followed by more shouting. He observed first responders place a sheet over the body and lead a man in handcuffs toward a police vehicle.

"It's very surprising, especially because I've never seen anybody coming in and out of that house," McKenzie said.

The investigation remains in its early stages. Authorities have sent the man's body to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will determine the cause and manner of death. State police have declined to release the victim's name until that process is complete.

The large police presence drawn to the quiet mobile home park Tuesday morning left neighbors shaken, with management asking reporters to leave the property Wednesday after they spoke with residents about the incident.
