Quality of Maine’s Senate campaign lies in its candidates’ hands | Letter

Read all of our coverage of Maine's 2026 election or stay up to date with the latest developments through the Maine Political Report in your inbox or text messages from politics editor Kirby Wilson.
We all understand that untold millions of dollars will be spent on Maine’s Senate campaign. We will see endless negative ads from PACs demonizing our candidates.
It may be too much to ask, but I hope both candidates will devote their own resources to tell us about how they propose to “promote the general welfare” of Mainers, and bend the arc of history toward a more perfect union.
I urge both candidates to earn our votes with proposals, not just platitudes. Then we can make our choice based on information.
Make a plan to vote.
