Portland Man Arrested in Armed Robbery at Vietnamese Restaurant

A 42‑year‑old Portland resident was taken into custody after an armed robbery at Huong’s Vietnamese Restaurant on St. John Street, officials said. The suspect, identified as Patrick Dean, fled with an undisclosed sum of cash but was apprehended by police less than 24 hours later.

The Incident

Police were called to Huong’s just before 5:30 p.m. on a Tuesday evening after a report of an armed robbery. According to the department, Dean brandished a firearm, forced staff and patrons to hand over money, and ran from the establishment before authorities arrived. The restaurant’s security camera captured the suspect’s escape, giving investigators a clear view of the man’s face and movements.

Quick Response

“Using security camera footage from the area, investigators identified the man, who was spotted the next day by a patrol officer headed to a different call,” Portland Police spokesperson Brad Nadeau said in a news release. The officer’s routine patrol turned out to be a lucky coincidence that led to Dean’s arrest. Police say the suspect was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with robbery, a Class A felony when a weapon is used.

Evidence in the Case

During the investigation, officers recovered two handguns that were believed to be connected to the robbery. The firearms were secured by the department as part of the evidence collection.

Calls for Information

The department is asking anyone who may have additional information to come forward. “If you have any information about the incident, please call Portland police at (207) 874‑8575 or text the keyword PPDME and a message to 847‑411,” Nadeau added.

About Huong’s Vietnamese Restaurant

Huong’s Vietnamese Restaurant, located on St. John Street, is a popular local spot known for its authentic dishes. The robbery was a shock to the community, and restaurant owners have expressed gratitude for the quick action of law enforcement.

What Happens Next

Dean will now face a Class A robbery charge, the most serious category for theft offenses involving a weapon in Maine. His arraignment is scheduled for the coming weeks, and he will be held in county custody pending trial.

The Portland Police Department remains on alert as it continues to investigate the incident and any related criminal activity. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior to the authorities.
