City Passes Ordinance to Keep Medians Clear

A local ordinance has been adopted that prohibits people from sitting, standing, driving, or parking on road medians. The measure will take effect immediately and is intended to improve traffic safety by preventing vehicles and pedestrians from occupying the central lane of highways and main streets.

The ordinance was passed in a unanimous vote by the city council during its recent meeting. City officials cited growing concerns about accidents that occur when vehicles drift onto medians or when pedestrians use the median as a rest area.

Under the new rule, anyone found on a median will face a fine. The ordinance also requires that any parked vehicles be moved to a designated parking zone or the side of the road.

The city has issued a brief advisory to residents and commuters, urging drivers to stay within their lanes and to avoid stopping on the median. “We want to keep our roads safe for everyone, and this step will help us reduce the number of vehicles and pedestrians on the median,” said one council member.

The ordinance will be posted on the city’s website and local news outlets to ensure that residents are informed about the new restrictions. No further details on enforcement procedures have yet been released.
