Portland police are investigating a suspicious death near Tukey’s Bridge.
Officers found an injured 21-year-old lying in the breakdown lane of Interstate 295 southbound near Exit 8 just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, police said in a news release Thursday.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where they later died. Department spokesperson Brad Nadeau did not respond Thursday morning to questions seeking more information about the death.
Police said the victim’s name was being withheld while authorities notify next of kin.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspect, who police say was taken into custody. Logs from the Cumberland County Jail show that a Portland man was booked at the facility around 5 a.m. Thursday in connection with a homicide.
Glen Rodney, 58, of Portland, was arrested by Portland police and remains in custody without bail, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

Nadeau said in a statement Thursday afternoon that the police department would not confirm the suspect’s name, adding that the agency would provide “an official update when appropriate.”
“Releasing or confirming that information before the appropriate time could impact the integrity of the investigation, compromise investigative steps, or potentially affect the rights of the individual involved,” Nadeau said.
Danna Hayes, a spokesperson for the Office of the Maine Attorney General, declined to comment on whether the man has been charged in the death.
The victim’s body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy. A spokesperson for the office confirmed Thursday that the autopsy had been completed but declined to comment further, citing the police investigation’s ongoing status.
The southbound ramp to I-295 at Washington Avenue and Bates Street was closed overnight and into Thursday morning while police investigated. The ramp has since reopened.
