Police investigating Peaks Island burglaries

Portland police are investigating a pair of break-ins that occurred overnight Wednesday on Peaks Island.
According to police spokesman Brad Nadeau, officers responded to a report of a burglary at a home on Island Avenue at 1:58 a.m.
The homeowner reported being awakened after three individuals entered the residence, Nadeau said. The owners told the Peaks Island News that they were sound asleep when they heard noises outside their first-floor bedroom door, and the couple assumed it was one of their children.
When they realized it was intruders, they yelled and chased the individuals away. While fleeing, the suspects damaged a door.
Nadeau said investigators believe the same individuals may be connected to a second burglary at a nearby residence that occurred during the same overnight hours.
This type of activity is rare on the island. Nadeau said the last Peaks Island burglary on record was in June 2020.
He said the investigation remains active.
