Brunswick Senior Center Opens Doors for Public Tour and Special Membership Offer

BRUNSWICK, ME – The Brunswick Area Senior Community Center, operating under the People Plus name, will welcome the public for a free open‑house event this Thursday, September 17, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The two‑hour visit will give residents a chance to explore the center’s daily activities, weekly clubs, and monthly programs—all in one stop.

At 35 Union Street, the center will serve refreshments while visitors tour the building. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to explain the variety of programs available, from arts and crafts to fitness classes, and to answer questions about membership. In the Café Gallery, a local art show will feature works produced in the People Plus art class, giving participants an opportunity to see the creative output of their peers.

A technology help table will also be available during the event. Instructors will assist members with common issues on Apple and Android phones, a nod to the center’s commitment to keeping seniors connected and tech‑savvy.

The open house includes a special membership offer: a first‑year membership can be purchased for $45—significantly lower than the standard rate. “We want to make it easy for people to join and experience the community we’ve built,” said a People Plus spokesperson. “The discounted rate is just one of the ways we’re lowering the barrier to participation.”

People Plus, which has been operating in the community for several years, highlights its role as a “one‑stop hub” for seniors. The center’s schedule features a wide range of activities, including group exercise, board‑game nights, volunteer opportunities, and educational workshops. The open‑house event is intended to showcase this breadth and encourage new members to take advantage of the center’s offerings.

The event is organized with support from Bowdoin College, a sustaining sponsor of the Times Record. “We believe a community must be informed to thrive,” the college’s website notes. “Through partnerships like this, we help keep our seniors connected and active.”

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to ensure a chance to speak with instructors and club leaders. The center’s staff will also provide a brief overview of the upcoming calendar, so attendees can plan which activities interest them most.

People Plus is open to residents of all ages, though the center’s name reflects its focus on senior citizens. The open‑house event offers a low‑pressure environment for families and friends to explore the center’s resources, making it an ideal opportunity for those considering senior‑specific programming.

The Brunswick Area Senior Community Center’s address is 35 Union Street, Brunswick, Maine. For more information, including a schedule of events and membership details, visitors can contact the center directly or visit the People Plus website.
