Two crashes — each involving four vehicles — caused heavy delays on Interstate 295 North in Falmouth during the evening commute Thursday.

Maine State Police responded to both crashes around 5 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.

One crash was located near Exit 10 while the other was near mile marker 12, Moss said.

No one was injured in the Exit 10 crash, Moss said, but the mile-12 crash resulted in one person being transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The left lane was closed in the area for about 45 minutes as authorities removed disabled vehicles.

“Traffic in the area was heavy and, at times, stop-and-go prior to both crashes,” Moss said. “The Maine State Police remind motorists to maintain a safe following distance, especially during periods of heavy traffic.”

The Falmouth police and fire departments, Maine Department of Transportation, and two towing companies assisted at the scene.
