Oxford Hills selects Portland administrator as assistant superintendent
Maine School Administrative District 17 has hired Amy Marx as its next assistant superintendent. Her appointment was confirmed by the school board during its Aug. 3 business meeting.
She will replace Steve Ciembroniewicz, who retires Sept. 1.
Ciembroniewicz joined SAD 17 four years ago and has also served as acting superintendent since June when Heather Manchester took a position with the Yarmouth School Department.

Marx comes to Oxford Hills from Portland Public Schools, where she was King Middle School principal for the past three years. Before that she was principal of the charter school Harpswell Coastal Academy, as well as at North Haven Community School from 2012-2018.
In between her Maine tenures, Marx spent five years in Asia leading the Didyasarin International Preparatory School in Bangkok, Thailand and the Heritage Xperiential Learning School in Gurgaon, India.

Prior to that she taught at and led several schools in the Boston area. In a news release, Ciembroniewicz highlighted Marx’s experience covering rural, urban and international educational settings.

“Amy Marx has traveled the world educating students and leading schools,” SAD 17 board Chair Troy Ripley, of Paris, said. “She will be a great addition to our leadership team and it is a pleasure to welcome her to the Oxford Hills.”
Marx graduated from Yale University with a bachelor’s in psychology and teaching certification for social studies. She earned her master’s in policy, planning and administration from Boston University.
Marx’s first day in Oxford Hills will be Aug. 31.
