Oxford Hills Vikings Dominate Portland Bulldogs 29‑0, Claim Class A North Lead

South Paris, October 14 – The Oxford Hills Vikings pulled off a decisive 29‑0 shut‑out against the Portland Bulldogs in a Saturday afternoon showdown, snapping a rough stretch that began with a 45‑6 loss to Bonny Eagle two weeks earlier. The win moves Oxford Hills to 5‑1 and into first place in the Class A North, while Portland’s record falls to 5‑2 and a second‑place position.

The Vikings opened the scoring on a 4‑yard rushing touchdown by Keegan Ridley in the second quarter. With the clock winding down in the first half, quarterback Toby Oufiero delivered a shovel pass to Tucker Hilden from three yards out, extending the lead to 15‑0 with 49 seconds remaining. Portland failed to generate any offensive momentum, as the Bulldogs’ only 23 carries yielded a modest 75 yards.

The Vikings widened the gap in the second half. Oufiero added a one‑yard rushing touchdown, and running back Carter Davis burst down the field on a 45‑yard run for his second score of the game. The offense’s balanced attack—13 rushes for 55 yards and a pass completion of 8‑of‑13 for 62 yards—kept the Bulldogs’ defense scrambling. Oufiero finished with a total of 110 yards, split almost evenly between passing and rushing. Keegan Ridley contributed eight carries for 38 yards, while also throwing two interceptions. Portland’s Alex Martin, the Bulldogs’ featured back, managed 75 yards on 23 carries without crossing the end line.

Defensively, Mason Ridley was a key playmaker, intercepting a pass and returning punts for significant yardage, including a touchdown‑scoring play. He also caught a two‑point conversion in the second quarter to extend the Vikings’ advantage.

“It’s tough to match the speed and strength of a team like Portland when you’re a 27‑man squad,” coach Nate Danforth said. “We focused on mental preparation and practiced with intensity to simulate that pace.”

Portland coach Dylan Rottkov acknowledged the challenge as well, stating, “Playing a great team, you get better from that. Iron sharpens iron, especially in the regular season. We’re grateful for the experience and will pull many positives and teachable moments from it.”

Oxford Hills’ quarter‑back, Toby Oufiero, reflected on the turnaround: “We knew it was just a bad night at Bonny Eagle and we had to move forward. We worked hard this week, came out here, put up a good fight, and won.” He added, “It’s not over yet; we’ll keep battling and hard work every day.”

The Vikings look ahead to two more conference matchups against Noble and Bangor, where they will seek to cement their top spot. Portland will regroup for its remaining games, hoping to close the gap in the standings.

With the Class A North now a tight contest, this shut‑out underscores Oxford Hills’ resilience and the potency of its all‑round game plan.
