Op-ed grossly misrepresented Susan Collins | Letter

Initially, I thought the title of Cynthia Dill’s Aug. 2 op-ed was a joke (“Susan Collins is a feminist’s best investment”). Instead, it was a free Republican ad for Sen. Susan Collins, portraying her as a friend to feminists.

Collins is the non-feminist who voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. This even after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified under oath that a drunken Kavanaugh and his friend attempted to rape her and nearly succeeded, thereby throwing Dr. Ford under the bus and leaving her open to death threats and abuse.

Just as a reminder, “feminist’s best investment” Susan Collins does not regret her vote. She continues with antifeminist votes for Donald Trump’s federal judge nominations, and finds it only “deeply troubling” that the Pentagon has blocked the promotions of senior female officers and Black senior officers.

Collins walks a very careful line with her votes. Take the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which will result in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and perhaps eventually even Social Security. The cuts will start kicking in after the November elections. Interesting timing.

Collins could have stopped the bill from ever reaching the Senate floor, but voted to advance it. Therefore, Collins can say she voted against the bill while having contributed to its passage; a win-win for her.

I believe anyone who is a feminist, a humanist, a care provider or receiver, an immigrant, is any other color except apparently white, is anti-war, believes in a government of the people and has hope to continue our democracy should vote for anyone but Susan Collins.
