Omar raid draws ominous warning from Vance as he blasts progressive rep's 'rage' toward America

Vice President Vance says DOJ will let the law guide investigation after raid on Rep. Omar’s Washington, D.C. home
Tyler, Texas – After a midnight raid on the Washington, D.C. residence of Representative Ilhan Omar (D‑Minn.), Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News Digital that the Trump administration will not interfere with the Department of Justice’s investigation, but will pursue legal action if evidence of immigration fraud or other wrongdoing is uncovered.
The raid, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, occurred on the night of Monday, April 22, 2024. HSI officials searched Omar’s home for documents and other evidence that could be tied to alleged immigration violations. The investigation is part of a broader federal probe that the administration says is focused on “facts and the law, not politics.”
Vance defends the DOJ’s independence
Speaking after a mid‑term rally for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton at the Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, Vance said the current administration would not “butt in” on the DOJ investigation. “We don't want to be like the Biden administration,” he said. “We never want to be like that—where they would allow the law to go after their political opponents.” He added that the law would be enforced if immigration fraud were uncovered. “If, of course, criminal wrongdoing is discovered or potentially fraudulent immigration is uncovered, then obviously there will be legal proceedings to follow that.”
The former Ohio Secretary of State, who was appointed to lead the DOJ by President Trump, said the agency would let the facts drive the investigation. “In the Trump administration, unlike the previous administration, we let the facts and the law drive this stuff,” Vance told the outlet. “We try to let the facts drive this thing.”
Vance also emphasized that the DOJ would not micromanage the investigation. “We’re not trying to micromanage this. We’re not trying to tell Attorney General Todd Blanche to do one thing or another,” he said. “We’ll let the investigation unfold.”
Omar’s response to the raid
Omar posted to her personal and government X accounts shortly after the search. “I’m ok,” she wrote. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.” She went on to say, “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”
In a separate post from her official account, Omar described the raid as an “outrageous abuse of power” and called it “an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies.” She added that she had done nothing wrong and that no president should be able to use federal power to intimidate political opponents.
Political context
The raid has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats, who say it is part of a broader pattern of political targeting. “The Democrats’ fury over Ilhan Omar raid draws a stark reminder about a precedent set by the Biden administration’s DOJ,” one source noted. Republicans, on the other hand, see the raid as a legitimate effort to investigate potential immigration fraud involving a sitting member of Congress—an unprecedented move that, according to Vance, will be pursued only if facts warrant it.
Vance’s comments came at a time when Republicans are campaigning aggressively to hold control of Congress. He was speaking in support of Ken Paxton, who is running a close race against Democratic state Rep. James Talarico for Texas Attorney General.
Next steps
The Department of Justice has not issued a public statement about the investigation. The HSI raid was reportedly part of a search warrant that was executed after the agency received documents suggesting that Omar’s family may have committed immigration fraud. The outcome of the investigation, and whether any charges will be brought, remains to be seen.
For now, Vice President Vance has made clear that the DOJ will follow the law, not politics, as it examines the allegations surrounding Representative Ilhan Omar.
