William John Flaherty

PORTLAND – William J. Flaherty, 77, died on Oct. 12, 2026, at Gosnell Hospice House. He was Born April 25, 1949, in Bangor Maine, the son of John J. Flaherty and Margaret Hines Flaherty.

William graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1967. After graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After the war he worked as a banker and educator.

William is survived by his son Christopher Flaherty; and his sister Mary Matarazzo (Flaherty).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery.

The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. Bangor, following the services.
