William Hollman White, 71, Dies at Home in Windham

Windham, Maine – William Hollman White, a lifelong resident of Windham and former crane operator for H & H Rigging in Portland, died peacefully at his home on September 8, 2026, at the age of 71.

White, the youngest child of Kendall T. White Sr. and Constance Fraser White of Cape Elizabeth, grew up in South Portland, where he attended the local schools. Known to friends and neighbors as a quick‑wit and affectionate man, he was described as having “a life full of magic and tragedy” and as someone who found comfort and peace with his wife, Janet Cook White, who predeceased him.

A self‑taught mechanic, White was famed in the community for his ability to fix or replace any machine he encountered. After a long career in the construction industry, he retired as a crane operator. He also enjoyed the outdoors, proudly supplying his family with a wide array of hunting and sporting gear.

White’s family was central to his life. He survived by his daughter, Lillian White of Windham, and by his two sons from his first marriage to Terry Butler: Peter White, who lives with his wife Sonja Sanborn, and Robert White. The couple’s infant son, William H. White Jr., had predeceased both parents.

With wife Janet, White raised three more children: Keith Cook (who lives with his wife Peggy), Linda Rackliff (who resides with her husband Bryan), and Keith Green. Another son, Aaron Fontes, had also predeceased him. In addition, White was a devoted grandfather, uncle, and cousin, with many relatives in the region.

White’s siblings, who all shared a close bond with him, include Jane Newton (husband Dennis), Rebecca Morgan (husband Robert), Thomas White (wife Lisa), and Kendall White.

In accordance with White’s wishes, no public memorial service will be held. Friends and family will gather quietly at his home to pay their respects.

The White family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. No further details about the arrangements have been released.
