Virginia “Ginny” P. Stevens Harrigan Aubin, 85, dies after battle with cancer
Brunswick, ME – Virginia “Ginny” P. Stevens Harrigan Aubin, an 85‑year‑old lifelong resident of Brunswick, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by family, after a determined fight with cancer.
Aubin was born in Vassalboro on August 31, 1940, to Virgil and Gladys (Smith) Stevens. She grew up in the Bath area, graduated from Morse High School, and earned a nursing diploma from the Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. While in school she met and married her first husband, John Harrigan. The couple raised four children together in Bath.
After the death of her first husband, Aubin found companionship again and married Donald Aubin in 2002. The couple lived in Florida and would spend the summer months in Maine, visiting family and friends. She worked as a nurse for many years—first full‑time, then on‑call—until she retired at age 75. Her career took her to Bath Memorial Hospital and later to Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick.
Aubin was known for her devotion to nursing, her love of family, and her hobbies of drawing, gardening, and spending time with friends.
Donald Aubin, her second husband, died in 2017. She was also predeceased by her parents and older brother Dick Billings.
Aubin is survived by her daughters Leslee Pierce (of Saco) and her husband Jeff, Johnna Sheaffer (of Whitefield) and her husband Lester, Anne Harrigan (of Bath) and her partner Mike Lagasse, and her son Lee Harrigan (of Portland). She leaves grandchildren Brett Pierce, Chase Pierce, and Kayla Rattleff, as well as a great‑grandson, Carter Rattleff. Sisters Louis Boulware (of Newington, Connecticut, with husband Darryel) and Lee Graham (of Mesa, Arizona, with husband Bill) and brother Jerry Stevens (of Lisbon, with wife Joan) are also survivors, along with several nieces, nephews, three step‑children, and step‑grandchildren and great‑step‑grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Pejepscot Terrace in Brunswick at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering a woman whose kindness and dedication touched many in Maine’s communities.
