Obituary: Virginia “Ginny” McQuarrie

Virginia “Ginny” McQuarrie
BATH – Virginia “Ginny” McQuarrie was born in Bath, Maine, on June 1, 1923. It is hard to put into words all that encompassed her 103 years, except to say her focus and joy was always her family, as she was theirs. She was the only child of Lucille Donnell and Everett Stilphin.
Ginny was educated in the Bath School system and was a member of the Morse High class of 1942. Very much in love, she married her childhood sweetheart James McQuarrie. She was employed at Belangers Gift and Music Shop in the 40s & 50s until she and Jim started a family and raised their two children, Janis and Jeffrey. Ginny and Jim were happily married for nearly 50 years, being active members of Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Isabella and frequently visiting Boston to see daughter Janis’ three children, Sheila, Barbara, and Michael, and attend Red Sox games.
Ginny volunteered at the soup kitchen and beano at the Bath Nursing Home. She was a communicant at St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Bath Senior Citizens Center. To all who knew her, Ginny was a sweet, impish, funny, and vibrant force who brightened any room with her smile.
She was the strong, beloved matriarch of her family, who knew her as Mimi, and her love and nurturing were gratefully reciprocated by her family who were privileged to return to her to provide care and allow her to spend her final years in her home on Dummer Street.
She was predeceased by her husband Jim; her son Jeffrey McQuarrie; grandson Michael Bramer; as well as a special cousin, Mary Elliott.
She is survived by daughter Janis McQuarrie; granddaughters Sheila McQuarrie and Barbara Bramer; cousins Sandy Elliott, Marnie Kaler, Katahdin Staples and Steve Vachon.
Visiting hours will be held at Desmond’s Funeral Home, 638 High St, Bath, on Monday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St Mary’s Church, 144 Lincoln St, Bath, on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m.
