Obituary: Susan W. Given
FALMOUTH, Maine — Susan W. Given, a longtime resident of the greater Portland area, died May 12, 2026. She was 83.
Born in Portland on Dec. 6, 1942, Susan was the daughter of Richard H. Woodbury and Virginia (Elliott) Woodbury. She attended Deering High School and went on to earn a degree from Gorham State Teachers College, now part of the University of Southern Maine.
Susan married David N. Given on June 29, 1968. The couple shared many years together before David’s passing. The couple raised their family in Yarmouth and later in Gray, where they built a network of lasting friendships before moving to Falmouth for Susan’s final year.
Susan was predeceased by her daughter, Janet Shah. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Given, and his fiancée, Sarah Walter; five grandchildren, Lexi Given, Lara Given, Meena Shah, Ravi Shah, and Sanjay Shah; and a number of siblings.
Family and friends remember Susan for her warmth, strength, and the love she steadfastly shared with those around her. In her leisure time, she delighted in spending afternoons at the beach in Jonesport and maintained an active social life through twice‑weekly bridge games with a close circle of friends.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on June 18, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Gray. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Camp Sunshine, a Casco‑based nonprofit that provides support to families facing serious illness.
