Obituary: Stanley Clarence Hall

Stanley “Stan” Hall, 78, of Freeport, Maine, Passes Away After Brief Illness
Freeport, Maine – Stanley “Stan” Hall, 78, died at his home on August 24, 2026, surrounded by his children. A veteran, longtime shipyard worker, and devoted family man, Stan left a legacy of service, hard work, and storytelling that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Stan was born in Caribou, Maine, on May 25, 1948, to Elwood Miller Hall and Alicia Hope Severy Hall. He grew up in East Hartford, Connecticut, and graduated from George J. Penney High School in 1967. A year later, following his lifelong best friend, Gary O’Keefe, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam for one year and twenty days (MOS 0331) and was honorably discharged in 1969.
In 1972, while still a Marine, Stan married Sharon Parsons in East Hartford. The couple had two children: daughter Stephanie and son Damian. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1992. After the divorce, Stan and the children relocated to Salem, Connecticut, in 1976. He joined the Electric Boat Shipyard, working as a welder on submarines for three decades before retiring in 1996. During his career, he was known for his steady hands, attention to detail, and camaraderie with fellow workers Frank Ward and Johnny Bryant.
Stan’s education did not stop with his high school diploma. In his early fifties, he earned an associate’s degree in accounting from Three Rivers Community College, a testament to his lifelong commitment to learning.
Beyond his professional life, Stan was an avid outdoorsman. He spent countless hours hunting with his father, brother Blaine, and friend Billy Harris. Summers were often spent fishing on Foss Pond in Maine, accompanied by Billy, Blaine, and Louis, and on other remote lakes. His travels were extensive, taking him to places as far away as Vietnam, Bangkok, Scotland, Vancouver, New Brunswick, California, Seattle, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Florida.
In 2015, Stan returned to his native Maine and built a home next to his son Damian’s in Freeport. There he relished the summer days on the islands of Casco Bay, swimming and fishing for mackerel and stripers with Damian, Damian’s wife Amy, and grandsons Liam and Jackson. Family vacations on Nantucket with daughter Stephanie, her husband Kevin, and granddaughter Morgan were another favorite pastime.
“Stan’s greatest joy was being close to his children and grandchildren,” said a family friend. “He was an amazing dad, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all.”
