Maine Native Maciej “Matt” Buchholtz Dies at 47
Maine’s own Maciej “Matt” Buchholtz, a former university graduate and professional who had worked in Boston and Chicago, died on September 2, 2026, after a battle with terminal glioblastoma. He was 47.
Buchholtz was born in Poland on December 28, 1978. He and his parents fled to the United States as political refugees when he was five years old, arriving in the U.S. after obtaining asylum at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw. Raised in Maine, he completed his primary and secondary schooling in the state and went on to earn a degree from the University of Maine in Orono.
After graduation, Buchholtz worked in Boston before moving to Chicago, where he spent the majority of his professional life. The specific nature of his work has not been disclosed, but his career spanned both the Northeast and the Midwest.
