Ronald “Ron” Pottle, 82, of Durham, dies after a long illness

Durham, ME — Ronald “Ron” Pottle, a longtime resident of Durham, died peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026, surrounded by his family. The 82‑year‑old was under hospice care in his home, where he had been living with his niece Renee and nephew John for the past three years.

Pottle, born in Lewiston on July 24, 1944, was the son of Rita Curtis and Fred Pottle. He spent much of his life repairing and installing heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems, building a reputation among coworkers as a dependable technician who always offered a helping hand. His work ethic and willingness to lend a ride or a laugh earned him many friends and a respected place in the local community.

Beyond his profession, Ron was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed photography, bicycling, camping, and motorcycling, taking advantage of Maine’s rugged scenery whenever he could. “He loved the quiet moments as much as the thrill of the ride,” said one family friend. “His camera was always ready for a sunrise over the lake.”

In addition to his siblings, he is survived by several nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. His parents, Rita and Fred, and his sister Mary predeceased him.

A celebration of life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on October 17 at 21 Penney Lane, Durham, where friends and family are invited to share memories and honor Ron’s legacy. For those who cannot attend, condolence messages and memories can be posted at brackettfh.com.

Pottle’s life was marked by steady service, a love for the outdoors, and a generous spirit that touched many in Durham and beyond. His passing leaves a quiet void in the community that will be felt for years to come.
