Robert “Bob” Alvin Fogg, 65, of Topsham, dies after long career as marine electrician
Topsham, Maine – Robert “Bob” Alvin Fogg, a longtime Bath Iron Works marine electrician and devoted family man, died peacefully in his sleep on September 12, 2026. The 65‑year‑old was survived by his wife of 35 years, Betty Gaudette Fogg, daughters Meghan and Jennifer, son‑in‑law Zach Cunningham, siblings Audrey and Bernard Fogg, and numerous other relatives.
Fogg was born July 29, 1961, in Eastport to Charles and Dorothy (Pottle) Fogg. He was the youngest of three children, grew up in the region, and attended Shead High School. For summer breaks he spent time in Bar Harbor, a pastime he cherished. After high school he earned an associate’s degree from the University of Maine at Machias.
In 1988, Fogg joined Bath Iron Works and spent 38 years working as a marine electrician. Colleagues remember him for his reliability and deep knowledge of electrical systems. “If you had to fix faulty wiring, you got Bob Fogg,” said a former coworker, reflecting the respect he earned on the shipyards.
A man of many hobbies, Fogg enjoyed riding motorcycles, tinkering with his eldest daughter’s John Deere tractor, hunting Market Basket bargains, baking bread, camping, gardening, and caring for his cat Bailey. He was also known for his practical help at home: from shutting off the water during burst‑pipe emergencies to repairing plumbing with a kit he kept in a children’s Easter basket. “He would calmly walk you through the steps and then be there the next day with his tools,” a son‑in‑law recalled.
Fogg’s affection extended beyond his immediate family. He was a frequent neighborly helper, once clearing a driveway after his own was snowed over. His sense of care and humor made him a beloved figure in the community.
A memorial service for Fogg will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A fellowship gathering will follow in the Highlands Community Room of the Topsham Public Library. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences at the funeral home’s website.
Instead of flowers, Fogg’s family has requested that donations be made to the Midcoast Humane Society, 5 Industrial Parkway, Brunswick, Maine.
The community of Topsham and the broader maritime workforce will remember Fogg as a dedicated worker, loving husband and father, and a man whose practical skill and warm presence will be sorely missed.
