RAYMOND – Peter John Curran, 83, of Raymond, passed away at his home on Oct. 24, 2026.
Peter was born on Feb. 25, 1943, in Portland to Edward and Phyllis Curran. He attended South Portland schools, graduated from University of Southern Maine and dedicated much of his career to education. He taught history at Westbrook High School for many years, where he also served as a soccer coach, tennis coach, and athletic director. In the final year of his educational career, he served as principal before retiring in 1999.
Throughout his life, Peter was committed to serving his community. He was active in the Kiwanis Club, local Boy Scouts, and Key Club. He was also a Fulbright Scholar and spent a year studying in Israel. His dedication to helping others led him to volunteer in the emergency room at Maine Medical Center, where he later worked for 10 years.
Peter also served in the Peace Corps for a year in Morocco and was a member of the Maine House of Representatives. His life reflected a strong commitment to education, public service, and community involvement.
After spending many Maine winters, Peter and his brothers moved to St. Cloud, Fla., where they lived for 17 years. Eventually, they returned to Maine and settled at the family camp at Little Sebago Lake, at Little Sebago Lodges, a place that brought them back to their roots.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Phyllis Curran; and his brother, Edward Curran.
He is survived by his brother, David Curran; and many cousins.
