Obituary: Norman E. Walker
WESTBROOK – Norm was born to Clayson “Mickey” Walker and Marion L Walker on Aug. 31, 1937, in Lewiston, Maine. The family later moved to Portland but Norm continued to spend summers on his uncle’s farm in Auburn, along with his cousins. At the age of 17, he joined the Air Force and was discharged in 1955, shortly after the sudden death of his father.
Back home, while attending the local theatre, he offered a ride home to a pretty, young French girl working there and this began the 70-year long relationship of Norm and Rae.
Daughter, Debra was born later that year and, three years later, daughter, Linda was born. Shortly after, Norm took a job with Allstate Insurance, the family moved to outer Westbrook. He would go on to be very successful within Allstate and worked with them for 34 years.
After 15 years, they decided to try one more time for a son, an attempt that was rewarded in Dec. 20, 1972, the birth of their daughter, Michelle.
The family moved next to a brick farmhouse on the corner of East Bridge St. and Austin St. and within several years, bought a classic old camp on Sebago Lake. After retiring from Allstate in March of 1998, Norm and Rae decided to remove the camp and build their dream house on the shores of Sebago Lake.
Nothing made Norm happier than looking out over the lake and seeing the loons cruising by, or watching an eagle or two soar from their perches in the pines. He loved the lake with all his heart.
His other passion was antique cars. Starting with a 1940 Ford Coupe“Henry”, he later bought a 1965 Corvette and his final purchase was a mate for Henry, another 1940 Ford Coupe Deluxe,“Henrietta”.
But late in 2023, health issues were becoming a concern for both Norm and Rae and they decided a single floor condo was in order. They moved to Stroudwater Heights, back in Westbrook.
This past year was a difficult one for Norm and health problems saw him hospitalized several times. By June, in light of his end-stage COPD, he made the decision to go on Home Hospice with Northern Light Health Care, a decision that his family supported him in. After three weeks, he was suddenly struck ill and required hospitalization for pain control. The following day, July 18, 2026, he passed without pain, with his beloved Rae, daughter, Linda and dear friend, Gerrie Pallang, at his bedside.
Norm is survived by his beloved wife, Reinette; his daughter, Deb Georgitis and her husband Jim, his daughter, Linda and her husband John, his daughter, Michelle Frost and her husband Michael. He is also survived by grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew Gregoire and granddaughter Ericka Christensen.
He was predeceased by grandson, Jeremy Georgitis.
A celebration of his life will be held on what would have been his 89th birthday on Aug. 31, 1 p.m. at the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church at 810 Main St. in Westbrook. If you wish, we daughters ask that you wear a shirt or hat (or both!) of your favorite New England sports team-the Bruins, the Pats, the Sox or the Celtics-listed in order of his preference!
