Maine Woman, 81, Passes Away After Long Life of Service and Faith

WELLS, ME – Nancy Doran Lambert, an 81‑year‑old Wells resident, died on September 29, 2026, after a life marked by community service, faith, and a love of the outdoors.

Lambert, born May 23, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts, grew up in Maine and graduated from Farmington High School in 1963. That same year she married Jon C. Lambert on September 7, and the couple built a home that would become a place of comfort and support for many neighbors and friends. Her husband predeceased her, along with her parents, Albert John and Lucille Totman Doran, and her sister Elizabeth (Doran) Averill.

A lifelong resident of Wells, Lambert’s career spanned several states. She worked at Poore Simons in Rochester, New Hampshire, and at The Kennebunk Copy Center. During the presidency of George H.W. Bush, she served as head of housekeeping at the Rhumb Line Inn, where she was known for her hospitality to visiting Secret Service agents.

Lambert’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She attended Mercy Chapel in Sanford and was a former member of Curtis Lake Church, also in Sanford. She often spoke of the comfort and community she found in these congregations.

A lover of the outdoors, Lambert was an avid runner who completed multiple marathons. She also cultivated gardens full of flowers and vegetables, which she would preserve in her pantry through canning. Her hobbies included coaching Bible quiz teams, bird watching, and reading. Friends remember her fondly for the special bond she shared with each of her cats.

Lambert is survived by her daughter, Faith Maddox, and her husband Randy; her son, Tim Lambert, and his partner Kristen Hagan; and her sister, Joyce (Doran) Stone, and her husband Phil Stone.
