Dr. N. Rich Lindquist, Brunswick Orthodontist and Community Pillar, Dies at 80

CASCO, ME — Dr. N. Rich Lindquist, a beloved orthodontist who served the Brunswick community for 35 years, died peacefully on June 4, 2026. The 80‑year‑old, a Portland native, was known for his sharp intellect, dry humor, and an impressive collection of clocks that once adorned his office.

Lindquist was born on May 13, 1946, to Norman and Helen Lindquist in Portland. He graduated as valedictorian of North Yarmouth Academy in 1964 before earning a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1968. After Cornell, he joined the United States Army, where he completed a tour at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He then pursued a doctorate in medical dentistry at Tufts University, specializing in orthodontics.

For three and a half decades, Dr. Lindquist practiced orthodontics in Brunswick, treating patients of all ages. “He was a steady presence in the community,” said longtime neighbor and patient Linda McCarthy. “People trusted him and knew they could rely on his expertise and kind manner.” He also played an active role with Big Brothers Big Sisters, mentoring local youth and volunteering his time whenever he could.

In 2007, after 35 years of practice, Lindquist retired. He and his wife, Laura, then fulfilled a dream that had been with them since childhood: living full‑time at their family camp on Sebago Lake. The lake, which had hosted their annual family summer camp for generations, became a place where Dr. Lindquist could fish, take boat rides, and spend afternoons with grandchildren Eriksson and Adalina.

He was also an accomplished steel‑drum player, playing tenor pan with a flair that surprised many. “He was brilliant and creative, always finding a way to bring joy into everyday life,” said his daughter, Krista Welch. “He encouraged us to chase our dreams and showed us that humor and curiosity are essential parts of success.”

Lindquist’s family continues to remember his legacy. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Laura; his daughter, Krista and son‑in‑law, Daniel; his son, Adam and daughter‑in‑law, Ariana; and two grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Sally Lindquist Perry, and her husband, Richard “Dick” Perry; a niece, Natalie Lathrop; and several nephews—Chadd Gorden, Todd Gorden, Glenn Gorden, Stephen Lathrop II, Spencer Lathrop, Colby Lathrop, and Owen Lathrop.

The family has expressed gratitude to Donalyn, Lisa, The Woodlands, and Andwell Hospice House for the compassionate care provided in Dr. Lindquist’s final days. Funeral arrangements were made through Dolby, Blais, and Segee in Windham, with a graveside service scheduled for Thursday, June 11, at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth at 1:30 p.m.

Those wishing to honor Dr. Lindquist’s memory may make donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to a local animal shelter in lieu of flowers.

Dr. Lindquist’s life embodied a blend of professional dedication, community service, and family devotion. His orthodontic practice left an indelible mark on the Brunswick community, and his warmth and humor will be remembered by all who knew him.
