Michael T. Healy

BRUNSWICK – Michael T. Healy, attorney, coach, and civic leader, died peacefully on Aug. 3, 2026 at Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick.

Mike was born in Lewiston, to Dorothy and John Healy. Dorothy was professor of literature at Westbrook Junior College and founder of the Maine Women’s Writers Collection. John was a published poet, literary critic, and owner of Bald Hill Turkey Farm in New Gloucester.

As a youth, Mike assisted in the work of the turkey farm, helping feed, catch and slaughter hundreds of turkeys annually.

After completing high school at Mt. Hermon in Gill, Mass., Mike enrolled at Brown University, majoring in political science. There he played soccer and lacrosse, earning All American Honors in lacrosse, and was later inducted into the Brown University Sports Hall of Fame.

Mike received his JD degree from Boston University in 1969 and embarked on a 35-year career as a litigator and partner at Verrill Dana.

He balanced his legal work with a passion for coaching youth soccer. He was president of Seacoast Soccer and in 2001 was named Coach of the Year, a national honor. After retiring from law practice, Mike served as assistant men’s soccer coach at Bowdoin College for 15 years.

Mike engaged in community organizations: Wolfe’s Neck Farm, Opportunity Farm, and the Sprague Foundation were but a few.

“The Great Outdoors” always beckoned Mike. His fishing trips with friends took him to a number of remote destinations: Patagonia, Newfoundland, Cuba, as well as Maine and Canada’s rivers and lakes. When Maine’s hunting season opened, Mike and his well-trained pointer took to the woods, hunting grouse and pheasant.

Mike’s enjoyment of competition was genuine, whether on the squash court, casting a line as a fly fisherman, or debating friends. Mike was a born raconteur and took great pleasure in conversing with friends and family. He was a 50-year Freeport resident

Mike had a destiny he believed in, and he swept aside impediments as he courageously faced medical battles in his final years.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Bridget; daughter, Nora Healy, son, Joe Healy, daughter, Abby Healy and son-in-law Taru Goel; granddaughter Lucia Goel; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Lee Flowers; niece and husband Julie and Gary Peterson; and cousin Beverly Anderson.

“Take from our souls the strain and stress and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of thy peace.” – John Greenleaf Whittier
