Maine Community Mourns the Loss of Marianne Langlois, 57

Portland, Maine – The local community lost a beloved resident this week when Marianne Langlois, 57, passed away at her home in Scarbrough on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Born in Portland on April 29, 1969, she was the only child of Frank and Eleanor Langlois.

From birth, Marianne faced medical challenges that required special care. For the first 25 years of her life, she lived with her parents in their home, where each milestone was celebrated with love. “She was never apart from her doting mom,” remembered Eleanor, speaking about her daughter’s close bond with her mother. The family’s devotion extended to daily routines; Marianne’s mother would take her to work, and her father would spend afternoons playing golf or watching football on television together.

Marianne’s life was marked by a love of the outdoors. She enjoyed lobster fishing trips and pleasure boating, and the family would travel to Florida during the winter months. The family’s home was a place of joy for Marianne, who cherished her pool and the companionship of her pets—a large dog named Bubba and a trio of cats: Sam, Buster, and Piggy.

She attended a number of educational institutions designed to meet her needs, including Woodfords School and the Cerebral Palsy Center. She graduated from Portland High School and continued learning through adult programs at the Morrison Development Center and the CASA Day Program. At the age of 25, a change in her medical condition meant she could no longer live at home, and she moved into CASA—a residential facility where she spent the last 32 years of her life. Her time at CASA was shared with fourteen housemates, whose caregivers formed an extended family network that cared for her with unwavering dedication.

Marianne leaves behind a wide circle of family and friends. She is survived by her cousin and legal guardian Kelly McGovern Shaw, her husband Bob Shaw, and their sons Benjamin and Cameron. Additional relatives include cousins Ken McGovern, Ken Higgins, Michael Higgins, Diana Falconer, Kevin, and Ron Hartford. Her caregivers at CASA are also grieving, as they describe her as a cherished member of their community.

A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery on Waites Landing Road in Falmouth. The ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 18, and will be organized by Conroy‑Tully Walker Funeral Home on Broadway in South Portland. An online memorial page is available at Conroy‑Tully‑Walker.com, where friends and family can leave condolences and share memories.

Marianne’s life story is a testament to the resilience of a family who, despite medical challenges, built a life filled with love, community, and adventure. Her passing will be felt deeply by those who knew her as a vibrant, outdoorsy soul who turned every day into a memorable experience.
