SOUTH PORTLAND – Our beloved mother, Marialice Susan Close, passed away Aug. 17, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on Sept. 22, 1945, in Machias, Maine to Albert and Molly Beam. Susan was a devoted mother, raising four children with endless love and patience, while building an accomplished professional career, of which she was proud.
She was an avid reader who also enjoyed gardening, puzzles, birding, Helen’s chocolate cream pie, goose tongue greens and her many beloved pets.
Susan is survived by her children Denise, Dawn, Trent, Dusty; her grandchild Julia; as well as her sisters Linda and Trixie; with many nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Polly, King, Ellen, Trey, Rachel, Philip and Tanner.
Sue was preceded by her loving husband, Bob; and her brother, Charles Beam. She also leaves many friends around the state including dear high school friends in Bar Harbor. She will be missed and her memory cherished by all.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at The Grande and Gosnell House for their compassionate care.
Private services will be held in celebration of her life.
