Maine Woman, Lynne Footman Goodwin, Dies at 85
Portland, Maine – Lynne Footman Goodwin, a longtime resident of Maine and beloved member of the Portland Christian community, died on September 11, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on February 17, 1941, Goodwin was the daughter of Shirley and Mauna Footman and the sister of Dean Footman of Brewer.
Goodwin grew up in Brewer, where she attended Brewer High School and forged friendships that would last a lifetime. After graduating from college, she traveled across the United States with a close friend, Norma Todd Dodge, an experience that deepened her love of travel and exploration.
A devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother, Goodwin’s identity was rooted in her faith. A lifelong Christian, she opened her home and heart to many, including a number of cats, and was known for finding ways to make the lives of others a little easier or better.
She predeceased her parents and brother. Surviving Goodwin are her son Tim, daughter Pam, three grandchildren, five great‑grandchildren, a niece, two nephews, and the Christchurch family. She will be remembered by all who crossed her path.
A visiting hour will be held on Saturday, September 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed immediately by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Christchurch, 1900 Congress Street, Portland.
An informal gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday, October 10, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the family camp in Dedham, 10 Second Road. All are welcome to attend.
Goodwin’s life, marked by faith, generosity, and a spirit of adventure, will be celebrated by those who loved her and by the community she helped enrich.
