Lois Grant Morrill

PORTLAND – Lois Morrill of Portland, formerly from Kennebunk and South Portland, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Lois was born in Portland on Feb. 11, 1931, to Alfred and Gelia (Collins) Grant. She was a graduate of North Yarmouth Academy.

Lois grew up in Yarmouth, Maine on Pleasant Street where she assisted her parents with their lobster business. She also worked at several small businesses in the area. In 1951 she was set up on a blind date by good friends to Bert Morrill, US Army, they were married in 1952 where they started their journey to various Army posts, Fort Devens MA, Orlean France, Ft. Benning, GA, Germany, Pennsylvania, and Okinawa, Japan. During periods of this time when Bert was stationed in Vietnam and Korea, Lois raised her children in Yarmouth, Maine. During her travels she was an amazing mother to get her children settled with so many changes.

Lois traveled for 10 years to Saudi Arabia where her husband worked after his retirement from the Army.

She volunteered her time with so many activities and was a long-time blood donor for the American Red Cross. Lois loved her time walking on Kennebunk Beach and later to Bug Light in South Portland.

She was loved by many and always would have a smile on her face and a wonderful attitude on life. We always said she is “One in a Million” due to her generosity and love she gave so freely.

She is survived by her daughter, Christine and husband Bill Van Voorhis of Standish Maine, son Greg and wife Charmaine of Rochester, NH; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Bert Morrill and daughter, Julie Burke. Also, her sisters, Pauline Redshaw, Janice Bryant, and Vivian Estes.

There will be a private celebration of her life at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. at a later date.

The family would like to thank Seaside Nursing Home for the generous care they gave during the last several years.
