Portland Woman, Long‑time Daycare Provider, Dies After Cancer Battle
PORTLAND – Lisa E. Christian, a lifelong resident of Maine and a devoted daycare operator for 45 years, died on September 23, 2026, at 8:35 a.m. after a prolonged fight with cancer.
Born and raised in Portland, Christian had spent nearly half a century running a home‑daycare that served many families in the community. She was known for offering a welcoming atmosphere and for her homemade baked goods, which she often shared with children and parents alike. Friends and neighbors recalled her fondness for dancing in the kitchen after a batch of cookies or cakes had cooled.
Christian’s parents, Donna and Robert Sanborn, survive her, along with her four children—Alyson, Cameron, Kenton, and Claire—and three grandchildren, Evangeline, Colson, and Caeden. In her will and through conversations with family, Christian expressed a desire to be remembered for her “sharpei ass” and her “fiery Aries attitude,” traits she claimed she passed on to her grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Christian is scheduled for November 7, 2026, in Portland. Family and friends are invited to attend and honor her legacy.
The cause of death was cancer, which had weakened Christian in the months preceding her passing. Her community and the children she nurtured over the decades will remember her kindness, culinary skills, and spirited personality.
Maine News Now wishes a peaceful remembrance for Lisa E. Christian and extends condolences to her family.
