Gray Community Loses Long‑Serving Resident Linda Lee Barter Erno, 72
Gray, ME – On Thursday, August 17, 2026, the town of Gray said farewell to Linda Lee Barter Erno, a 72‑year‑old lifelong resident who had made her home in the coastal community since the 1970s. She was born March 17, 1954, in Portland to Walter and Erma Barter, and grew up as the youngest of three siblings.
Barter Erno graduated from Greely High School in 1972 and later earned an accounting degree from Husson College. Throughout her career she held a variety of jobs across several industries, finding particular joy in the human side of work. “She loved interacting with people,” said a former coworker. “Her humor and thoughtful homemade gifts were always a highlight.”
A devoted family woman, Barter Erno is survived by her husband, Dave Erno, and her daughters Megan Macklin (married name Nick), Jenn Bragg, and Renee Bragg (married name Chris). She also left a stepdaughter, Tanya Barnes, and eight grandchildren: Auroralyn and Colton Bragg‑Malloy; Isla, Callum, and Freya Macklin; and Eli Bragg‑Stern. Her extended family includes her best friend, Bobbi Brackett, and her ex‑husband Woody Bragg (Mary Beth).
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Richard Dunn, and her two brothers, Ralph and Guy Barter. The family has requested a private graveside service for close friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, mourners are encouraged to consider donating to NICU Helping Hands’ Angel Gown Program, an organization that was especially dear to Barter Erno.
Barter Erno’s passing marks the loss of a beloved member of the Gray community, whose warmth and generosity were felt by everyone she met. Her legacy of kindness, humor, and heartfelt gifts will be remembered by family, friends, and colleagues alike.
