Obituary: Leslie Irvin “Les” Clark

Leslie Irvin “Les” Clark, a lifelong Maine resident and Korean‑War veteran, died on Sunday, September 4, 2026, at the age of 93. Clark was born in Orland on August 10, 1933, the son of George T. Clark and Blanch G. (Shorey) Clark. The family relocated to Portland when Les was ten, and he attended local schools there before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1953. He served until 1956, spending part of his military career during the Korean War.
After his discharge, Clark entered the business‑technology sector, working for three national firms—Marchant Calculators, Frieden Inc., and The Standard Register Co. He specialized in sales and service of data‑processing machines, business forms, and systems, and lived in several Portland‑area communities, including South Portland, Windham, Scarborough, and Gorham.
Clark retired in 1990 and spent the next thirty‑five years building and enjoying a retirement home in Madrid Township. He remained there through 2025, forming lasting friendships in the small‑town community.
He is survived by his children: sons Wayne L. Clark, who lives in Durham with his partner Kim, and Alan G. Clark, who resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with his wife Linda. Daughter Renee L. Emery lives in Windham with her husband Lewis. The family also includes six grandchildren—Jeremiah and Alyssa (children of Wayne), Jason and Jennifer (children of Alan), and Michael and Zachary (children of Renee)—and eight great‑grandchildren: Caden, Callie, Alice, Fiona, Wilson, Oliver, Remy, and Rhett.
Clark’s marriages spanned more than three decades. He first married Patricia Anne Pellett, the mother of his children, and later wed Beverly (King) Quirk. Both his wives, as well as his parents, predeceased him.
A longtime fan of Frank Sinatra, Clark adopted the song “My Way” as a personal motto. He was quoted as saying, “I did it my way,” a sentiment that reflected his straightforward, independent spirit.
A private family burial will be held at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service in Farmington; family members and friends can view memorial photographs and submit condolences at www.dsfuneral.com.
