Kerri Rose Gilligan, 28, of Portland, dies
Portland, Maine — Kerri Rose Gilligan died on September 23, 2026, at Maine Medical Center. The 28‑year‑old was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and had lived most of her life in the Portland area.
Gilligan is survived by her parents, Mary and Dan Courter of Winthrop; her brothers, Jack and Ryan Gilligan, both of Portland; her grandmother, Judy Gilligan of North Andover, Massachusetts; and a large network of aunts, uncles and cousins. Her grandparents, Eileen and Robert Preskenis of Northport and Thomas Gilligan of North Andover, predeceased her.
“Every moment with the people we love is a gift,” Gilligan’s family wrote in a statement. “We ask that you take a moment to hold your loved ones a little closer. Check on the people who matter to you, tell them you love them, and never take their presence for granted.”
The family expressed gratitude to the staff at Maine Medical Center and the various outreach programs in Portland for the compassion, respect and love they offered Kerri during her illness. A private Catholic service and burial will be held in her memory. Those wishing to honor her legacy are encouraged to make a donation to a local food bank in her name.
Gilligan’s passing is a loss for her family and the Portland community, which will remember her for her warmth and the kindness she shared with those around her.
