Obituary: Katsue Kenny

Katsue Kenny, a longtime resident of Turner, passed away on Aug. 23, 2026, at the age of 84. She died peacefully at home while sleeping, her family said.
Katsue was born on Feb. 26, 1942, on Tinian Island, a U.S. territory in the western Pacific that is part of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. She was the daughter of Seiko and Akiko Teruya. In May 1965, she married Joseph Kenny, and the couple made their home in Maine, where they raised a family and built a life rooted in community and mutual support.
Throughout her years in Maine, Katsue was remembered for her quiet strength, her dedication to her loved ones and her ability to bridge the cultures of her island birthplace and her adopted home. While details of her professional life remain private, those who knew her speak of a warm‑hearted woman who offered steady guidance and a listening ear to family and friends.
Her final days were spent in Turner, where she was surrounded by the comfort of her own home. Her family described her passing as gentle and serene, reflecting a life marked by perseverance and love.
A graveside service to honor Katsue will be held on Monday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, located at 163 Mount Vernon Road in Augusta. The ceremony will be open to the public, allowing friends and relatives to pay their final respects.
Arrangements are being handled by The Fortin & Pinette Group, whose office is at 217 Turner Street in Auburn. Those wishing to send condolences or share memories of Katsue are encouraged to visit the funeral home’s website, where an online guestbook is available for messages to the family.
Katsue’s death leaves a lasting emptiness for her family and the community, who recall her generosity, her steady presence and the love she gave unconditionally.
