**James “Jamie” B. Marquis, 71, Passes Away in Belgrade** James “Jamie” B. Marquis, a lifelong resident of Maine who cherished the state’s outdoors and the people in his life, died peacefully at his home in Belgrade on Aug. 27, 2026. He was 71 and was surrounded by his wife, Maxine, and his children and extended family. Marquis was born on May 5, 1955, in Farmington to Germaine Maurais Marquis and Barney Marquis. He grew up in the scenic town of Rangeley, where the forests and lakes first sparked his love for the great outdoors. He graduated from Rangeley High School in 1974 and later studied plumbing and heating at Washington County Community College. A career in the energy and infrastructure field spanned several decades. He worked for Maurais and Sons, H.E. Sargent, Cianbro Corporation, and Central Maine Power, and at one point owned Kennebago Hydro. Throughout his professional life, he was known for his work ethic, reliability, and willingness to help others. Jamie’s personal life was defined by the same steady commitment he brought to his work. He and his wife Maxine (née Train) shared decades of marriage and raised a son, Justin J. Marquis, who predeceased him. He was survived by three brothers—Dennis, Michael (Kathy), and Stephen— and three sisters—Anne Gregory, Kathie Marquis‑Girard, and Paula (Mark) Schoenthaler— as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His parents, Germaine and Barney, and his sisters Michele Marquis Wright and Patricia Marquis Bolduc are also remembered. An avid outdoorsman, Jamie spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, and skiing. He was particularly fond of Kennebago, a place that held a special place in his heart. He cherished family gatherings in the woods, along rivers, and around lakes, where memories were created and shared. “Jamie was a devoted husband and a loving family man,” said a close friend. “He carried a deep appreciation for simple pleasures and for the places that meant the most to him.” No formal funeral services will be held at his request. Instead, a celebration of his life is planned for a later date. Friends and family are invited to share memories and stories in a book of memories that will be maintained at the Wiles Remembrance Center of Farmington, which will also provide cremation services. The family has chosen not to request any specific memorial donations, but they have provided information for those who wish to support causes that were important to Jamie.
