Obituary: James Healy
James Healy of Scarborough died May 24, 2026, at the Veteran's Home in Scarborough. He was 83.
Born July 7, 1942, in Manchester, New Hampshire, Healy grew up and attended school in the city, graduating from Bishop Bradley High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Antietam during the Cuban Missile Crisis, one of the tensest moments of the 20th century, when the ship played a role in the U.S. naval blockade of Cuba.
After completing his military service, Healy attended Plymouth State College, earning his degree in 1966. He went on to spend his career teaching science.
Healy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patty, of Scarborough; his son Andy and partner Charlene of Laconia, New Hampshire; his son Chris and partner Jan of Westbrook; his brother Bob Healy and wife Judy of Hampton, New Hampshire; his sister Anne James and husband Hank of Portland; his sister Mary Kilrain and husband Tom of Manchester, New Hampshire; his sister-in-law Sally Healy of York; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 14, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Scarborough Hospitality Center at Hobbs Funeral Home, located at 671 Route 1 in Scarborough. Private interment of his ashes at the family plot in Franklin, New Hampshire, will take place at a later date.
The family has expressed deep gratitude to the staff and residents of the Veteran's Home in Scarborough and has asked that anyone wishing to honor Jim's memory consider a contribution to the facility that cared for him in his final days.
